Focusing on breast cancer, the seminar explored the application and development of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in its treatment. The event aimed to foster cross-disciplinary exchange and promote a more comprehensive model of patient care.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The seminar was moderated by three Chinese and Western medicine practitioners: Dr. Cheryl Chan (Specialist in Family Medicine), Dr. Tracy Shum (Specialist in Clinical Oncology), and Tina Lee (Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner). The event also featured presentations from several experts across different specialties, including Dr. Wendy Wong (Adjunct Associate Professor of Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Honorary Associate Professor in Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, The University of Hong Kong, Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, The University of Hong Kong), Dr. Cindy Wong (Specialist in Clinical Oncology), Professor Naomi Takemura (Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Dr. Kalina Wu (Adjunct Associate Professor, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Dr. Emily Lai (Specialist in General Surgery), Ms. Sally Poon, (Registered Dietitian), and Dr. Chan Sze Wun, Winnie (Specialist in Radiology).<\/div>\n

These multidisciplinary experts gathered to share the latest clinical practices, exchange valuable experiences, and engage in in-depth discussions on the future direction of breast cancer treatment. Through open and pragmatic dialogue, participants explored how to leverage the complementary strengths of Chinese and Western medicine, promoting an integrated treatment model. The goal is to provide breast cancer patients with more comprehensive, personalized, and supportive medical care.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On that day, a breast cancer survivor was invited to share her experience of fighting the disease. She had pre-existing kidney and heart conditions, and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. After undergoing surgery and three rounds of chemotherapy, her body could no longer cope, leading to symptoms such as weakness in her lower limbs, difficulty walking, and easy breathlessness. As a result, her Western medicine doctor referred her to receive traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
At first, she was reluctant to try TCM, thinking that Western medicine had no further treatment options for her, and that the referral to TCM was merely a “last-ditch attempt.” However, after three months of TCM care, her condition gradually improved. She was able to strengthen her overall health, and her quality of life significantly increased. She expressed deep gratitude to all the medical staff, especially Dr. Cindy Wong and Dr. Wendy Wong. Her heartfelt sharing was deeply moving and served as an inspiration to the medical professionals and fellow patients present.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
